How to setup an FTP Server using FileZilla Server with XAMPP
1. First you need to find the XAMPP Control panel .exe or shortcut, and right click and ‘Run as administrator’
2. Now that’s been done, in the control panel make sure you tick the ‘Svc’ box next to FileZilla
3. Click ok and then when it comes to ‘Install Service?’ you want to check yes. It should then say ‘Autostart service’ click yes, that’s if you want it to boot with your machine to save opening once the machine starts. ![]()
4. It should now say ‘Start server?’ click yes.
5. Your control panel should now look like this
Ok so now the server is successfully installed onto your machine, we now need to create a group and user(s).
1. On the control panel to the right of Stop, on the same line as FileZilla click ‘Admin…’
2. If you wish to setup a password, type one into the box now. This is the password so no one can change your settings.
but I’m going to skip this step since my PC has a password on it.
3. You now want to go to Edit > Groups
4. On the right side click ‘Add’ and type the name of the group, I’m going to make a new group called ‘Administrators’ but this can be called what ever you wish.
5. Pick the settings you want the group to have.
6. Once you have picked the settings you can now close that window, and click Edit > Users
7. On the right I highly recommend you remove both the default users.
8. Once you done that you then want to click ‘Add’ to add a new user. Fill in the User name and then pick the group if you made one.
9. Make sure the ‘Enable account’ is not a blue box but a tick. Do this but clicking the box, and then clicking it again to get the tick.
10. I highly recommend you do this to protect your files. Adding a password, check the ‘Password:’ box and type the password you want for the user.
11. Then go to ‘Shared folders’ on the left hand side.
12. Click ‘Add’ and select the folder you wish to share to this user. With the folder still highlighted click ‘Set as home dir’ as this is the folder when they connect it goes inside the folder.
13 Now make the rest of the settings like mine:
14. Click ok and that should close the window back to the server window. Now let’s test this to see if it worked. On your other machine, you want to download FileZilla or some other FTP software, and as the host you want to use your local IP for now. To get your Local IP click start and type cmd if your in windows vista/7 other wise in XP click start > Run then type cmd and hit enter.
Now type ipconfig and find your network adapter and the IPV4 is your Local IP address.
User is the user you made, and put the password if you made. Port is 21 on default.
And on the FileZilla Server window you should see something like this.
And now if you see that and it connected correctly, congratulations on your FTP server ![]()
