Geekius is a news site dedicated in bringing a vast number of articles to the college crowd. To meet our goal we are constantly seeking talented writers to join our team. As you have noticed on our website, we don’t write to impress a corporate crowd, rather to impress our friends. Articles on Geekius are meant to provide information on a subject from a peers point of view. We tend to have a lot of opinions on the subject with supporting facts. We want to share our experience and opinion, not sell a product. Therefore, our writing style and standards are different from that of other news sites.
Here at Geekius we are always seeking creatively thinking writers. Writing for Geekius is a great way to gain exposure to your writing. If you have a unique style of writing, Geekius can help expose your talent to a vast number of visitors. Furthermore, you can even get feedback from the community to help improve. You are/were a college student who is always looking for something to ‘kill’ your day. If you have been to a wonderful restaurant or got a ‘sweet’ deal on an awesome TV you bought for your dorm, why not let others know about it? There are others who wants something similar to you.
Open Subjects
We place no restrictions on subjects you could write about. In fact, we encourage all of our team members to write at least one article per category. Through this we hope that you will gain a broader understanding of your fellow team members and also learn about what it takes to research a specific topic. In college or even thereafter, you will be exposed to subjects that you’re not exposed to. Take this as an opportunity to prepare yourself for that day when you will have to.
Guidelines
At Geekius we don’t have a reading level requirement on any article; rather, we require that you are happy with what you wrote. Just remember that our visitors will not just test your knowledge, but also use your knowledge. As an author for Geekius, you will have access to our amazingly simplified posting panel. For publication we take advantage of an amazing content management system called WordPress. We require that you have a good understanding of WordPress before you apply to the position. Don’t worry we don’t require you to be an expert; rather, just know how to post an article, about post tags, post categories and be able to update your articles.
To make your task even easier, we have added additional features that doesn’t require you to know any HTML code at all. Simply select from a number of shortcodes and get going with your article. To help you with your articles, here is a philosophy we follow at Geekius:
“We don’t write…we communicate.” – Laura Gurak
Payment
Geekius is not focused on earning money. We want to give back the college world. That being said, you will not earn money from Geekius when you join the team. Instead, you will be building a reputation for yourself. This, in the long run, can be more valuable than money. We have had writers who were accepted to amazing positions at a vast number of companies and two authors who were accepted to a wonderful college because of their unique writing style.
